Dada and Surrealist Collage

In the aftermath of World War I, two interrelated art movements developed. The Dada movement pursued absurdity and random juxtapositions. Surreaism created images of subconcious dream worlds where the laws of physics and rationality no longer applied. Both found collage a useful tool. They combined photos and printed material to recreate the irrational way thoughts and images can collide in the mind.
